Frequently Asked Baptism Questions:

What is water baptism?
Water baptism is a symbolic ceremony that publicly demonstrates our desire to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. When people come to faith in Jesus, the Bible tells us they are baptized (placed into the Body of Christ) by the Holy Spirit. Friends teach that the essential baptism is the baptism of the Holy Spirit, stressing the importance of inward change.

Is water baptism a part of salvation?
No. We are saved by grace through faith, not by any works or actions of our own. Baptism, like a wedding ceremony, is a public display of our love for someone - in this case, Jesus. Evangelical Friends teach that baptism is voluntary, not required for church membership, and not essential for salvation.

Who can be baptized?
Those who have come to faith in Christ and understand what water baptism means can be baptized. Children need to be old enough to have received Jesus as Lord and Savior and understand what salvation and baptism mean.

What is needed to be baptized at Rose Drive Friends Church?
We will baptize those who have professed their faith in Jesus, attended a "Baptism Class", and have written a brief story of their faith and relationship with Jesus.

Why is baptism done publically?
We view baptism as a celebration to be shared as a church family and as a public testimony to family and friends who might not yet have a relationship with Jesus. We encourage you to invite your family and friends who might not yet have a relationship with Jesus. We encourage you to invite your family and friends to the Sunday worship service that morning. Baptism will occur after the morning services.
