UPWARD BASKETBALL AND CHEERLEADING

Our Upward Basketball & Cheerleading Winter League is a ministry at Rose Drive Friends Church for all families seeking a league that develops the total athlete Mentally, Athletically, Spiritually, and Socially. Each Child Plays/Cheers. Every Child Learns. Every Child is a Winner. Rose Drive is one of many participating churches in a program that is available across the nation. Upward Basketball is designed for boys and girls from 1st – 6th grade.

Upward Sports athletes grow in character, confidence, faith, and sportsmanship during their personal athletic journeys, and become more than just an athlete. We strive to promote and teach good sportsmanship and teamwork in a Biblical context – we make every attempt to make sure all players get an equal amount of game play.

Cost for either Basketball or Cheerleading: $125 before October 31; $150 November 1-6 (Basketball cost includes reversible jersey and shorts, and basketball.)
(Cheerleading cost includes cheer top and skort, poms, megaphone, and hair ribbon.)

Online registration for our 2017-2018 Winter Basketball and Cheerleading League is open!

 

Important Dates:

Evaluation/Orientation Days: This year, we will have two options: Saturday, October 28, from 2:30-5:30pm and Saturday, November 4, 8 am-1:30 pm in the gym. You may choose which day is best for you, although please note that attending one of the evaluation/orientation days is required. (You do not need to attend both.) (Please see the grade-level schedule below.) During this time, your child will have a skills assessment (basketball) or orientation (cheerleading) and be sized for his/her uniform. Please feel free to drop by anytime during your evaluation timeframe. Evaluation and uniform fittings generally take about 30 minutes, although there could be a 30-45 minute wait time before your child is evaluated, if everyone happens to show up at the same time.

Saturday, October 28 (2:30-5:30 pm):
1st-2nd graders: 2:30-3:30 pm
3rd-4th graders: 3:30-4:30 pm
5th-6th graders: 4:30-5:30 pm

Saturday, November 4 (8:00 am-1:30 pm):
5th-6th graders: 8:00 am-9:30 am
3rd-4th graders: 9:30 am-11:30 am
1st-2nd graders: 11:30 am-1:30 pm

One-hour practices per week will begin the week of December 11, with two weeks off (12/25 and 1/1) for Christmas. Practices could be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday night, starting at 5:30, 6:30, or 7:30 pm. Each team practices once/week. At registration, you may choose one day that does not work for you.

One-hour games will begin Saturday, January 6, 2018, and run weekly on Saturdays through February 24, 2018. Games are held every hour, starting at 8:00 am with our oldest kids and progress throughout the day by age. Generally, our youngest kids play in the afternoon/evening, with our last games starting at 6:00 pm. Cheerleaders cheer one game/week.

Picture Day is scheduled for Saturday, January 20. Optional individual and team photographs will be available to order and purchase. More details coming soon.

Coaches and Volunteers are always needed! If you’re interested in coaching or volunteering in any way for our 2017-2018 basketball or cheer season, please plan to attend one of our three coach/volunteer meetings: Thursdays: September 28, October 26, or November 9, at 7:00 pm in D115 (Fireside Room), on the SE side of the gym building. (Please note that all of our Head Coaches will need to be background checked and fingerprinted.)

UPWARD SOCCER

What is Upward Soccer? Upward Soccer is a ministry at Rose Drive Friends Church for all those families seeking a league that celebrates team soccer and good sportsmanship.Simply, the Upward philosophy is as follows: Each Child Plays. Every Child Learns. Every Child is a Winner. RDF is one of many participating churches in a program that is available across the nation. For more information about Upward Unlimited, visit www.upward.orgOur Upward Soccer League is designed for boys and girls from 1st – 6th grade. The children will learn soccer skills alongside valuable Biblical lessons. This indoor soccer league places importance squarely on teaching the Word of God to a younger generation. We strive to promote and teach good sportsmanship and teamwork in a Biblical context – we make every attempt to make sure all players get an equal amount of game play.

2017 Spring Soccer Details:
Online Registration: Registration has been re-opened to accommodate additional kids! Register by clicking on the button below through Friday, March 17. Cost $150.
   (Registration fee includes jersey, shorts and ball.)

7 weeks of Games: Saturdays April 22,  May 6-20, June 3-17
(No game on April 29 -Serve at Love Placentia; no game on May 27 for Memorial Weekend)

Game Times: One hour/week on Saturdays: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm (Generally, our older teams play first, followed by our younger teams.)

Practices Start the week of Monday, April 10. (Please wear tennis shoes; shin guards are optional.) Team are assigned a one-hour weekly practice time that can begin at 5:30, 6:30, or 7:30 pm in the Gym on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. You may choose one day that does not work for your schedule during the online registration process.

Upward Soccer Celebration: Monday, June 19, 6:00-7:00 pm, in the Center Bldg (the building with the clocktower).
Coach/Volunteer Meetings: Are you interested in coaching or volunteering in any other way?  Please come to an interest meeting on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 6:00 pm or Monday, March 27, at 6:00 pm in the Fireside Room, on the SE side of the gym. (Please note that all of our Head Coaches will be background checked and fingerprinted.)

Upward_Stars_NOTagline_BlackTMRose Drive Friends Church is partnering with Upward Stars Orange County.

In 2012, Upward Sports created a Performance Division known as Upward Stars. This expansion provides opportunities for young athletes to further develop their athletic skills and participate in a higher level of competition. Upward Stars programs are for young athletes ages 8-18 that have the drive and intensity to perform at a high level of competition. Upward Stars programs are led by Certified Leaders in over 40 cities across the country.
